Val was born in Germany. His parents, Ben M. Hillebrand and Anneloes, were both born and raised under the dutch nationality. When they moved to Antwerp, Belgium in 1992, Val's father took on the Belgian nationality. Therefor Val also recieved the Belgian nationality because at that point he didn't reach the age of 18 yet.
"I always thought I was more dutch than belgian but now I just don't know. I talk flemish with my girlfriend and friends but without thinking I switch over to dutch when talking to my parents. Can't say for sure which one I love the most!"
