Val was born in Germany. His parents, Ben M. Hillebrand and Anneloes, were both born and raised under the dutch nationality. When they moved to Antwerp, Belgium in 1992, Val's father took on the Belgian nationality. Therefor Val also recieved the Belgian nationality because at that point he didn't reach the age of 18 yet.

"I always thought I was more dutch than belgian but now I just don't know. I talk flemish with my girlfriend and friends but without thinking I switch over to dutch when talking to my parents. Can't say for sure which one I love the most!"


Racing career

1996 : Karting, junior class, Belgian championship 3rd place

1997 :

Karting, Inter A class ,Belgian championship (3 races)
Preparation and qualification for La Filière, Le Mans, France
Moved to Le Mans

1998 :

Formula Campus, races in France and Great Britain

Pre-season testing Formula Ford

1999 :

Formula Ford, Dutch, Belgian and Benelux championships :
  • Belgian championship - 2nd place;
  • Dutch championship - 3rd place;
  • Benelux championship - 4th place
    BRSCC Formula Ford Cup :
  • Brands Hatch - 2nd place

  • 2000 :

    Formula 3 :
  • German championship - 3rd at Nurburgring;
  • Swiss Championship - pole + 2nd at Hockenheim

    20 days testing and set up own Formula 3000 team

  • 2001 :

    FIA Sportscar Championship in the Dome S101 with Racing For Holland and Jan Lammers :
  • Monza (1000Km), Spa, Donington and Mondello - 3rd place
  • Nurburgring - 1st place
  • 3rd overall
    Rookie of the year
    24 Hours of Le Mans with Jan Lammers and Donny Crevels :
  • retired after 156 laps (electrics problem)

    3 days testing Indy lights at Phoenix Oval
    Indy Racing League testing at Las Vegas Oval (Mi-Jack Conquest Racing)

  • 2002 :

    FIA Sportscar Championship FIA Sportscar Championship in the Dome S101 with Racing For Holland and Jan Lammers :
  • Barcelona - 4th place
  • Estoril - 3rd place
  • Brno, Magny-Cours, Dijon - pole + 1st place
  • Spa-Francorchamps - pole + 2nd place
  • WORLD CHAMPION
    24 Hours of Le Mans with Jan Lammers and Tom Coronel :
  • 8th overall

    Instructor at Warneton Speedway Oval
    Camso V8 testing
    Racing for Holland / Dome-Judd Dunlop program
    Belgian Touring Cup : BMW Compact M3
    Instructor World Racing School in Thailand
