Val looking forward to the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa Posted on 29/07/2004 @ 00:44
For the first time in his career, Val Hillebrand will participate in the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa. However, the young man from Antwerp doesn't arrive unprepared in the Ardennes forest. In 2001 and 2002 Val took part in the legendary Le Mans 24 hour race with the Racing For Holland Dome S101-Judd V10 and in 2002 Val became FIA Sportscar World Champion. This year hails a new era for the 23-year-old Belgian with Dutch roots, as he takes part in the FIA GT Championship with a Chrysler Viper GTS-R entered by the Zwaan's Racing Team. It is with this car that Val and his teammates will take on the greatest challenge of GT Endurance racing, the Proximus 24 Hours of Spa.

The Viper may not be the quickest car on the current FIA GT grid, nevertheless it did manage to win the 24 Hours of Spa 2 times in the last 3 years!

Val approaches this weekend with a lot of confidence.
"To me, this race is the high-point of my season. Not only am I able to race in front of my home-crowd, but the Chrysler Viper has already proved to be a very fast and very reliable car, which is what you need when you're looking to win a 24 hour race!
It is however not an easy car to drive. A lot of its weight is to be found at the front and this can tend to make the rear of the car a bit light on its feet. The marvellous V10 engine had an enormous amount of torque and an immensely wide and useful RPM-area. Thanks to this suppleness we are able to preserve the car better during the 24 hours. The fact that the Chrysler Viper always does extremely well during the Spa 24 Hours gives me a lot of confidence going into this race and I'm really looking forward to it."

The weather will also be a determining factor during the 24 hours says Val:
"If it rains, this will even out the existing speed-differences between the cars and make for some interesting racing. If it's hot however, it will be extremely hot inside the Chrysler Viper cockpit, the temperature can get up to 70°!"

At 4 o'clock on sunday we will know whether or not the Chrysler Viper can make it 3 wins at Spa!
